Mycelium
Mycelium is a side-on roguelike engine-builder where you get to experience what life is like as mycelium. You are a living, pulsating, semi-autonomous mycelial network. Your job is to shape your growth: laying down bait to the network, cutting off strands that wander into danger, walling yourself off against invaders or fighting them directly. Your goal is to reach the green fields to the east so you can fruit and throw spores.
Inspired by the interlocking-engine feel of games like Terraforming Mars and the run-to-run pull of modern deckbuilders, but built around the tension between growing fast now and building something that survives the onslaught of ever increasing natural threats.
Life
- Grow toward nature. Drive runners and fans through soil and around rock, aiming your growth toward the east— and away from what's hunting you.
- Build an engine, drafting cards from the food you digest — passive producers, on-demand actions, one-shot events. Get your Energy, Water, and Phosphorus compounding before it's too late.
- Hold the line. Wall off the colony, snare predators, and amputate infected strands before rot spreads through your whole body.
- Fruit and spore. Break through to the woodlands, spore, and carry your deck into the next level.
Threats
- Trichoderma — green mould that creeps toward you and infects on contact, spreading fast
- Nematodes — predatory worms that hunt through the soil and multiply.
- Ant colonies — rivals that race you for every scrap.
Current build
- Survival mode — procedurally generated levels with ever increasing difficulty.
- 11 playable species, each a real fungus with accurate biology and its own economy and opening deck: the fairy-ring champignon, the world-spanning honey fungus, a phosphate-trading Slippery Jack, the weeping Bleeding Tooth, the archival Artist's Conk, and more.
- 69 unique cards across basics, events, passive engines, and installed actions.
- Three currencies to juggle — Energy for cards and actions, Water for growth, Phosphorus for digestion and defense.
- Meta-progression — earn Spores by clearing levels, spend them to reveal and unlock new species.
- "Memory" species that let you hand-pick cards you drafted on your last run and bring them into a fresh one.
Coming up: Campaign mode
- A handcrafted campaign — dozens of designed levels with boss encounters.
- 100+ new unique cards.
- 20+ new playable species.
- 5+ new enemy types.
